Options
The MIFARE option expands the opportunity to meet increasing requests for MIFARE cards in financial and other targeted markets. In addition, it automates the MIFARE encoding function into the printer, eliminating the need for a separate encoder and a secondary operation. This saves both time and money for your customers.
Offering significant enhancements to the J330i, J360i and J430i performance class printers, the new versions of the drivers (V5.00.13/V6.00.06) and firmware (V1.16.11) are available now for download. New features include:
- MIFARE contactless smart card encoding
- Windows Vista and Server 2003 compatibility (2000 & XP also supported)
- Increase in print speeds
- Selectable heat table command – offering a choice of two heat tables in the firmware
- Silent colour sensor calibration automatically conducted at every cleaning cycle
- Eliminates "staining" on certain card designs with extensive white area backgrounds
All Javelin J330i (& J360i) and J430i printers with serial numbers higher than J330I02181 or J430000444 manufactured after 29 January 2008 will have the new drivers and firmware combination.
New J330i, J360i & J430i Drivers & Firmware Recommended Actions
The new J330i, J360i and J430i drivers (V5.00.13/V6.00.06) and firmware (V1.16.11) can be downloaded from the NBS website.
Both the firmware and driver must be upgraded at the same time.
The firmware must be upgraded before the driver.
| Printer | New Driver | New Firmware |
| J330i & J360i | 5.00.13 | 1.16.11 |
| J430i | 6.00.06 | 1.16.11 |
Although the versions numbers are identical, please note that the latest J330i and J430i firmware are specific to each printer model.
The new driver and firmware upgrade is highly recommended for all users, except for those who have previously adjusted their images to meet specific requirements and do not wish to re-adjust for the new colour ranges.
Both the new driver and firmware must be upgraded for correct operation. With certain card designs the new heat table may result in darker prints. If lighter prints are desired, you can select the alternative heat table available in the new firmware.
Software Developers Kit (SDK) Now Available
A SDK is now supported with the same driver and firmware downloads mentioned above. The SDK allows software developers to write applications for Zebra card printers, and includes programming documentation, an application verification tool, a reference manual, and an application programming interface (API). The SDK supports various functions (printer, graphic, and smart card) on the following Javelin card printers: J100i, J110i, J110m, J120i, J330i & J430i plus the P630i and P640i.
In addition, NBS has developed its own Mifare test tool to enable Javelin dealers to check the encoding functionality prior to integrating the printers with customers' own systems.
For more information on the Card printer SDK and to download the kit and test tool, please visit the Javelin Technical Downloads on the NBS Dealer Zone.
For ID card applications requiring Mifare encoding, NBS recommends Javelin5 application software. Demo software can be downloaded from the NBS web site.
